Crossgate Village
Notes of meeting held on 31st July 2006
7.30 p.m. at Waddington Street Church Hall
Balanced Communities
A letter (dated 14th July 2006) from the local MP was read to the meeting.
This was received positively. Councillor Martin that the proposed “task
force” existed in the form of the University Liaison Committee. He said
that following his attendance at a national meeting we should be aware that Durham
University was much more active on this matter than other universities.
Vision 20/20
There was no feedback on this. It is expected that consultation will commence
soon for completion in the autumn.
Parking
Councillor Martin explained the situation in the areas “overflowing”
from the controlled area. A consultation process was taking place with residents
re yellow lines and scheme extensions.
Deregulation of parking was being pursued and likely to be implemented late next
year. He was asked to try to get it expedited as soon as possible. He would also
investigate the issue of enforcing parking in back lanes. (i.e. would parking
attendants be able to ticket vehicles for obstruction).
Rubbish
Concern was expressed that green (recycling) boxes were not being returned to
houses (as has been happening with wheelie bins for some time). The end of term
clean up has not occurred after a couple of years of good service.
It was decided to “diary” May 2007 to put pressure on the university
and councils to be more prepared.
Any Other Business
Instances of poor highway maintenance were described. (Replacing flags with bitumen
near the age concern offices at Hopper House and tarmac over the pedestrian crossing
at the Gates shopping centre). Councillor Martin to investigate.
An AGM for the constituted group is still planned for October. Councillor Martin
will need a request for funds and bank account details so that he can support
the publicity.
