Crossgate Village

Notes of meeting held on 27 th March 2006

7.30 p.m. at Waddington Street Church Hall

Group Development

The desirability of becoming formally constituted was discussed.

•  There is a need to consolidate our progress
•  Becoming formally constituted will enable funding to be obtained
•  We could attempt to cover a broader geographical area
•  The proposed constitution could be posted on the website
•  Another open meeting will be needed to ensure that any constitution and committee are approved by the wider public
•  Nigel Martin will be able to provide funding toward a flyer
•  It will be possible to form an interim committee who could provisionally adopt the constitution and organise the open meeting/first AGM.

Parks and Open Spaces

•  A Fun Day is being planned in Peskies Park on Saturday 10 th June
•  Stephen Light circulated an improvement plan for Lawson Terrace Community Garden
•  Insurance costing around £200 per annum will be needed for this garden
•  Ownership of the garden will need to be established
•  A bid for funding to B&Q has been made via the King's Church
•  We are likely to obtain funding from the City Council to improve local open spaces, but this excludes Peskies Park.

Parking and Transport

•  Grenville Holland had chaired a meeting to discuss the parking overspill in North End and the Farnley Hey area
•  There doesn't appear to be a great deal of urgency as regards taking forward the proposed bus lane on Crossgate Peth
•  Taxis are still using Crossgate in the early hours of the morning despite the recent changes designed to prevent this
•  Nigel Martin will take this up with the traffic department
•  Bob Wynn will alert Leslie Blackie to this issue

Policing matters

•  Police are too thin on the ground most of the time
•  Resources are concentrated on Friday and Saturday nights in North Road
•  Decriminalisation of parking will help to control illegal parking
•  Police do respond effectively to complaints
•  Graffiti has appeared in numerous locations
•  There have been arrests in relation to the graffiti
•  The city council will clean the graffiti as soon as possible

Other

•  Our MP is organising a seminar on Sustainable Communities (21 st April) to which we have been invited
•  One of the street repair items that we pointed out to Gordon Wingrove (damage at end of John Street) has now developed into a large hole, and this has been reported.
